Two Problems Your New Baby May Have And What You Can Do About Them

If you are currently pregnant, you are likely excited about your new baby. It is important that you learn everything that you can before it is born so you will be ready to take well care of it. Below are two common problems your baby may have and what you can do at home to treat them.

Baby Has Diaper Rash

Diaper rash is unavoidable and it is painful for babies. Fortunately, it is usually not a problem that is bad enough to visit a doctor, and you can treat this at home.

One of the best ways to treat the diaper rash is fresh air. Lay the baby on a few thick, clean, soft towels and remove their diaper. Let them go without a diaper as much as you can, such as overnight. You will have to keep a constant check on the towels and change them out as soon as they become wet.

There are natural ways to take care of the diaper rash. One way is to use baking soda. Fill a baby bathtub with warm water and add a couple of tablespoons of baking soda in the water and mix. Let the baby sit in the water for approximately 10 minutes two to three times per day.

If the diaper rash does not go away, you should take your baby to the doctor to be treated.

Baby Will Not Latch When Breastfeeding

Breastfeed is a healthy choice for your baby but it does not always work well when you first start. One problem you may be having is getting the baby to latch on. To help with this problem, make sure your baby's mouth is wide open before you put it on your breast. If they will not open their mouth, you can tickle their bottom lip with your breast nipple. As soon as their mouth is open, quickly insert your nipple into their mouth.

You may have to try this a few times to get it right. It will not take long for your baby to learn how to breastfeed so you can be sure it is getting enough food.

If your baby will still not latch onto your breast, a lactation nurse can help you with this problem.

If you are worried about anything with your new baby, call your newborn care clinic, who can determine if it not a problem or if you should bring them into their office.
